A very wise person gave me this piece of advice yesterday... Take for example your discovering of the Grand Canyon.  You can look down into the huge hole in the ground and say "That is the most amazing hole I've ever seen in my life."  Or... you can turn to someone you love and say "Isn't that the most amazing hole you've ever seen in your life."  The difference between these two experiences is so ardent that there are few things that should compromise only ever experiencing the latter.
